TDK products create a foundation for Industry 4.0

As the level of automation deepens, digital applications, including the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) , are becoming more widespread and energy-efficient, Industry 4.0 is making great strides. To this end, the TDK Group launched a comprehensive range of innovative EPCOS  (EPCOS)  and TDK key components.


TDK has the most comprehensive range of ceramic, film and aluminum electrolytic capacitor products, including power capacitors for power factor correction and HVDC systems. In addition, aluminum electrolytic capacitors, which are widely used in DC links, are classic components of industrial power supplies, inverters, and solar power inverters.


The new screw capacitors have a capacitance of 1500 nF to 18.000 nF and a rated voltage of 350 V DC to 450 V DC. The ripple current capability is 40% higher than previous products. At a maximum operating temperature of 105 °C, the service life is up to 6000 hours.


The application of film capacitors in DC links is also becoming increasingly popular. The EPCOS brand introduces a new ultra-compact solution measuring only 40 mm x 58 mm (diameter x height). It is rated at 350 V DC, has a capacitance of 65 μF, and has a very high capacitance density of 0.9 μF/cm3. Compared with similar products, the capacity per unit volume of this product has increased by 50%.

Innovative DC link scheme using ceramic capacitors


TDK has developed a CA series vertical laminated MEGACAP type MLCC (multilayer chip ceramic chip capacitor) with both large capacity and low ESR. The new MLCC is rated. Voltages from 25 V to 1000 V, capacitances from 20 nF to 150 μF, and C0G, X7T, X7S, and X7R temperature characteristics.


CeraLinkTM capacitors are DC link and snubber solutions The foundation of innovation has been laid.Based on modular flexible assembly technology, the new capacitors feature a space-saving design in which two, three or even ten identical capacitors are connected in parallel to the same terminal to increase the capacitance value. The new CeraLink FA type capacitors are rated for 500V DC, 700V DC and 900V DC with capacitance values between 0.5μF and 10μF depending on the rated voltage and the number of capacitors.


New ferrite magnetic material can greatly improve efficiency


Manganese zinc (MnZn) based PC200 ferrite magnetic material Developed for GaN-based high frequency switching power semiconductor applications. The new core design reduces copper losses by up to 70%. A special core design with distributed air gaps helps achieve higher operating frequencies and reduces inductive components in the power supply. By reducing the electromagnetic radiation, the copper loss during high-frequency operation can be greatly reduced.


Overvoltage protection ensures safety


TDK's new compact NT14 and NT20 series thermal fuse protection varistors further Expanded the EPCOS ThermoFuseTM product family. The NT14 series (disc diameter 14mm) absorbs surge current pulses of 8/20-μs and up to 6 kA at 130 VRMS to 680 VRMS, while the NT20 series (20 mm disc diameter) absorbs Surge current pulses of 8/20-μs and up to 10 kA at rated voltages from 130 VRMS to 750 VRMS.


Helping industrial networking applications


LAN and WLAN networking are the foundation of Industry 4.0. The LAN cable is based on Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology and is capable of transmitting both data and power.TDK offers a new EPCOS transformer with an output power of 60 W for PoE++ with DC resistance as low as 3.5 mΩ, depending on the model. TDK extends its lineup of ALT4532 series pulse transformers for applications such as Gigabit Ethernet and Power over Ethernet (PoE). The new ALT4532P products are designed for emerging 2.5GBASE-T (2.5 Gb/s) and 5GBASE-T (5 Gb/s) LAN applications and 1000BASE-T (1 Gb/s) applications using 600-mA PoE. In addition, the 4532H is also compatible with the 10GBASE-T standard (10 Gb/s).

CeraChargeTM is the world's first SMD solid state rechargeable battery, ideal for industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications and is available in a compact EIA 1812 package. With a rated voltage of 1.4V, a capacitance of 100μAh and an internal resistance of 200 Ω, it can withstand up to 2 mA in a short time, making it ideal for pulsed operation.For example, powering the Bluetooth module during data transmission.


Sensors - the foundation of industrial automation

Ultrasonic-based sensor solutions, such as EPCOS ceramic ultrasonic sensors, are in line with today's trends. These disc sensors operate from 200 kHz to 400 kHz or 500 kHz to 4000 kHz, depending on the geometry. In industrial electronics applications, these disc sensors measure the flow of fluids or gases or the level of fluids and bulk materials.

HMI (Human Machine Interface) and other haptic feedbacks are becoming more and more important in the field of industrial electronics. To this end, TDK has expanded its line of PowerHapTM series piezo actuators with tactile feedback and introduced a miniaturized 2.5G cutting-edge product.The new product measures only 9 mm x 9 mm x 1.25 mm and has a maximum operating voltage of 60 V. It achieves an acceleration of 2.5 g at maximum operating voltage and 100 g load. In addition, the product has a maximum displacement of 35 μm and can generate forces of up to 4 N. The new miniaturized product fills the gaps in the original 7G and 15G PowerHap actuators.
