Artificial intelligence (AI) is growing and maturing, and a group that benefits from it becomes clearer: knowledge workers. These workers need both experience and the ability to collect and analyze the data needed for decision-making and action, and they are getting tools that can significantly improve their performance.
Artificial intelligence covers everything from robotics and the Internet of Things, to machine learning and natural language processing, which is fully automated The world of end-to-end analysis and decision making; artificial intelligence frees humans from everyday tasks and further enhances human intelligence.
But in reality, today's main concern is to provide knowledge workers with the information and tools they need to get their work done faster and more efficiently. This is confirmed by the results of the Forbes Insights survey, which found that 79% of executives believe thatArtificial intelligence has been driving revolutionary improvements in knowledge workers' workflows and tools.
For an example of empowering knowledge workers, let us hear about the CEO of Werner Enterprises, a transportation and logistics giant. Derek Leathe
What should the energy focus on?
Forbes Insights research shows that the way to improve the performance of knowledge workers basically revolves around these three key areas:
1, eliminate repetitive tasks: doing When making decisions, knowledge workers must often refer to a range of data sources that may be scattered across various spreadsheets or databases outside the organization. Editing such information is often repeated or < u>Mechanical, so it is ideal for tools such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
Julie Leese is the Chief Digital Officer of the Canadian Department of Transportation. Is the main supervisor of Canadian rail, maritime, air and land transport operations and policies. Leese explained that RPA allows organizations to automate basic tasks, especially those managed by clear business rules. Leese says such robots "More efficient than humans, able to process more data faster and more continuously."
2, simplifying decision making: machines - artificial intelligence - very good at compiling data. But for now, Tarak Ray, vice president of IT at Cadence Design Systems, said that humans still need to make the final decision. For example, he said, a machine can be trained to recognize flowers, but "if you ask the machine to draw a picture of a painting, or say which flower is the most beautiful, the machine does not know." Even so, machines are able to collect and perform basic, massively repetitive analyses that help increase the speed and efficiency with which humans make important decisions.
3. Providing new insights: One of the most powerful capabilities of artificial intelligence is the ability to provide information to decision makers in a way that significantly enhances understanding. The chief technology officer of a large commercial real estate, retail and entertainment group explained: “Data visualization itself can bring some interesting discoveries.” They use Power BI, a cloud-based business analytics software.Support for approximately 680 ongoing reports involving artificial intelligence for knowledge workers and decision makers. The CTO said the reports were very powerful. "Today, no one will make a decision before they even look at the Power BI dashboard."
Forbes Insights survey shows that knowledge workers play many roles. In fact, various functional departments are actively seeking artificial intelligence capabilities. Currently, IT is still the most active user of artificial intelligence (52% of respondents), far more than other businesses such as operations (39%), marketing (33%), sales or logistics (32%).
But the survey shows that the gap between IT and other business functions is shrinking over the next 18 months. IT still maintains a leading position. After all, this is a function of understanding technology, operating data, and defining business rules. The survey predicts that the vast majority of knowledge workers will actively participate in artificial intelligence projects in the next 18 months.Artificial intelligence does have a transformative impact on knowledge workers and will continue.
